An open love letter to maska bun and cutting chai

Dear Maska bun and Cutting chai,

I always feel that you are made for each other. And when I tasted you first time I felt all three of us are made for each other. As if you are Jodi no 1.(Couple No . 1)  We spent so many moments together.  You were there with me  as a brunch  and dinner. Before I had any idea about brunch or high tea...!!!  You guys were there on every occasssion of my colllege life.  For days you were my only meal.

How can i forget chai of Rutaraj,(a road side tea stall in Ahmedabad, India)  it 's like water mixed with tea..  I liked it more than my house tea which was filled up with extra sugar and milk.

Maska bun. oh,  what a taste!!!!  Amul butter spreaded on round shaped bun. I still don't know why it is called maska bun. Both words don't go to gather !!! I don't care ..I enjoy every bite of maska bun. In one of Iranian hotel I had bun with white butter but I didn't like the taste. For many of my friends including me  maska bun is the bun with Amul butter. (Amul is foremost milk product brand in Asia, it's butter is of yellowish color and little bit salty)

How can I explain cutting chai to my non Indian friends. Half cuppa  tea... but does it translate all  cutting chai taste??

Do you know I used to find your alternative in Starbucks tea chai latte and everything bagel with cream!!! My affair with didn't lasted long!!!!

Whenever I order you..cutting chai and maska bun it will take few minutes to arrive.. Those minutes seemed to me longest. My stomach making sounds of waiting.. My mouth started feeling the taste before it arrives.
This time I ordered  maska bun and cutting chai long back but they are taking very long more than a year!!!

Your taste is better than any girl friends I had!!!!

Lovingly
Your long Lost lover

Future Performance

Sometimes I think what kind of films will be made in future??? what kind of performance will be after 50 years????

Films are will be expressive and wild as our dreams... I think thematically there won't be any drastic changes ( still you will find Gangster, romantic, fairy tales)
but the format must be different. There will be many more animation films in all genres both for children and adults. Animation industry will have much advancement.

3d will be passe!!! There must be something else!! Films will be much shorter in size!! One hour at most!!!

We still enjoy Kurosowa, Hitchkock, Welles. But What about audience of 2050?

Blinknama

1.
I like the word blink!!!! Somehow whenever I say ‘blink’ my eyes blink.
Blink got new meaning when I say Palkaro in my mother tongue Gujarati. Nice phonetic sound Palkaro… Palkaro I can feel the word while saying it and I blink
2.
Why do we blink??? Main reason is to moisten our dry eyes.
Is there any other reason??? Why do we think??? Can we blink without thinking? Can we think without blinking? Think. Blink. Do both.
Are they related?
I think because I blink. Can we say so?

3
My friend told me, ‘ We blink because we are tired of this monotonous world and we hope that after blinking our eyes will open up to a better world.’ Or do we blink because we want to capture and process life? We want to frame it and register it so that we can enjoy that moment later. It is like a camera each blink is like a new snapshot to capture. We see the world, capture it, blink and we are ready for fresh for new take. This camera has endless stock of reels.”
4
Imagine if we couldn’t blink all our life, how our life would be. It can be compared to a film without any cut, a long endless take like “Russian Arc’.
5
I guess when we blink we are alone for that moment, just with ourselves. The outer world for that moment shuts down for us. We often gone back to our shell and reflect things around us. Blinking is to find momentarily peace within oneself
6
Is sleep conscious blinking with lot of time gap between each blink?
7
When we turn our heads, we blink, when we agree with some one we blink, when we meet some one, we blink, when we are discussing a point and reach at the end of first part we blink. When we made the point we blink. When we nod, we blink. When we understand the point we blink. When we reach full point we blink.
8
Each person thinks differently, walks differently, talks differently but does each person blink differently? Yes. One person blinks only once in a moment another one blinks frequently in one moment. Is there any reason? Or it is just another habit? Do you remember Sarah Palin? She is a self-proclaimed spokesperson of blinking.

9
Blinking shows the character of a person too. If a person blinks several times in a sentence he is not confident about the subject matter or he is hiding something. If person blinks several times it reminds me of Barbie doll and its fakeness. Many girls have the habit of blinking several times to show off their attitude.
9
We can extend our blinking to the films. Each character should blink at the precise moment in the film. So an actor has to go beyond the skin of a character and comes out with pattern of blinking for a character. In close up shots actor must blink at the precise moment. If an actor is angry he should not blink often. But remember blinking should come from within actor. The director can’t force it.
10
Let’s think about a situation of watching a performance. If we like the movie, or play, we blink less number of times. We are so involved with story we don’t think anything else. we don’t remember what is going on in our own life. We are so engrossed in the scene that we go by the rhythm of the story. In emotional films when characters blink , we simultaneously blink with him. We identify with that character so much that we feel the rhythm of that character within us. And many of the us (viewers) might blink at the same time. We tuned to rhythm of a character and story for time being. If this happens movie wins our heart.

11
Jean-Dominique Bauby writes a memoir with blink of an eye. He was suffering from massive stroke known as locked-in syndrome. He could only blink his eye in whole body. But his mind is intact. He fulfils his promise to write a book to his publisher even after the stroke. Bauby cannot speak, but he develops a system of communication with his speech therapist by blinking his left eye as she reads a list of letters to spell out his messages, letter by letter. He writes a memoir with blinking. He writes, talks with blinking. So blinking becomes a way of communication. You need to watch ‘John Schanabel “Diving Bell and Butterfly” if you haven’t watched it till today.
this is a trailer of the film.

I blink because I can meet my own self, my own city, my own tears in moments Now I blink and you think and blink. I am going for sleep. I will blink in dreams too. You do the same.

I am thankful to Arvind Goja and Walter Murch. I have borrowed ideas from both of them.

Dear Eva,

I think we can have a discussion over Hindi films. Finally they give us bread and butter(Roji Roti )but apart from that what Hindi films give us? Does it give meaningful entertainment? Please think about bigger Picture.
We like Hindi films because its our own language..
Think about these points.

1 What Hindi films offer to International audience? ??
Do Hindi films take cinema language to a new height???
Every day we are getting technically better but what about Content??

2 We started making films from 1912-13. But why did very few films interests European or American audinece?

(Your counter argument might be our sensibilies are different then Western people. But all of us are not humans??

Lot of Hollywood Studios are coming to India to make collaberation but it's only for the market. They will exploit our resources... talents..But they can't generate good script which are within Indian soil.

3 . Young directors .. Vishal Bhardwaj, Ashutosh Govarikar, Anurag kashyap ,
can they compete against Wong Kar Wai (chinese Director) , Ang Lee( Taiwanne) , Majidi ( Iranian) Mahakalaf (Iranian) Lars Von Trier(Dutch) and Spike Lee (American ) , Inaritu ( Mexico)

4 In last five years couple of nice Hindi films came but any films are top notch films like Amerros Perros/ Departed/ Talk to Her/ Hunger?

5. I saw Dev D and Gulal. Dev D lacks the rhythm.. Gulal is full of over acting. They were nice films but didn't leave long lasting impression?

Ride with a Brother's Bloom

Do you know Rian Johnson?
Have you seen Brick??
Yes you must have... it was Neo Noir film on teenage age children and their deadly plans.
the same director comes up with a very different movie this time... It 's name is Brother's Bloom.

It's about two orphan brothers who become con artist in their adult life. Film starts in Bloom and Steven's childhood. No parent wants to keep these to notorious boys. From early days Steve makes a plan and Bloom implements it. The first seven minutes (before title sequence) works as prologue of the film. Even it works as an independent short film too. From here on we can see director's signature. The way he deals with child actors both in brick this scene is fabolous.

Cut 25 years later. Broom is trying to live an unwritten life .. independent of his brother. Steven convinced him with his freind Bang Bang ( awesomely beautiful Japanese actor-Rinko Kikuchi) to act for the last plan. Then plan starts to win Rachel Weisz property. There are so many U turns in the story so be atentive you might losose many beautiful things if you are not.

Final scene is so dark it reminds me of final scene of Brick when all the characters met in the tunnel. He is fond going zig zag towards the end.

I like most about this film is its superb dolly movements. A bit over used though. When I came out from the theatre I felt I am on dolly track too. It was raining out side. My friend's car came and I jump in. We drove away.

I didn't like its sound track and too much u turns. He could minimise a one or two u turns. It felt like movie is going to finish and then it peaks another note, another turn. It happened twice.

I have one hour.
No you are wrong. I gonna live more than that. I have one hour before my work.
what could i do in this one hour. Can i scribble on this white paper, can i write my dreams or can i see short film on UBU.com
how to maximise one's time? or should i go to bank and apply for credit card.. maximise my credit limit?
i think i should write down something.
over the years i became lazy lazier and more laziest..i wake up 11- 12 in the noon. whewre i am going? i don't try to work hard, take things as it is, don't try to push my limits. iCouldn't satisfy myself. I feel communiacation problem all along the world, whichever language or freinds or relatives?
all this lead to confidence loss and depression and many things.
I try to read things, people, stories but they don't create meaning , they don't translate ity in ideas .
i saw one old woman looking at me with curious eyes from the shop from opposite side.. what she might have thought about me? what story she has made up in her mind about this bearded man? ( Am i really man?)
how should i grow as a writer as film maker if i negate the experices? why my mind and body is becoming more andm ore stubborn?
i can write stories about the blind man who lost eyes in vietnam war, i make film on man who changed his sex, i can write screenplay on my own life. why not?
